Terms of Service

Repertoire · Last updated 29 September 2026

In short: Repertoire is free software made in spare time and offered as it is. Use it for your own chess study, keep your own backups, and don’t misuse the services it connects to. There is no warranty.

1. The app

Repertoire (“the app”) is a free, open-source web app at zeddyfree-art.github.io/chess for building, checking and training chess opening repertoires. It is published by zeddyfree-art. By using the app you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

2. Free software licence

The app’s source code is licensed under the GNU General Public License v3.0. That licence, not these terms, governs copying, modifying and redistributing the code. The README lists the third-party components (chessground, chessops, Stockfish, Maia-3, ONNX Runtime, ts-fsrs) and their licences.

3. Your data and your backups

Your repertoires and settings are stored on your own device, and optionally in your own Google Drive. You are responsible for your data. Browsers can lose site data, and sync can fail, so please download a backup file from time to time (Settings → Backup file). See the Privacy Policy for what is stored where.

4. Third-party services

The app connects to services run by others: Lichess (opening database, engine evaluations, login), Google (Drive sync, only if you connect it) and GitHub (hosting). Your use of them is subject to their own terms and policies. In particular:

5. Acceptable use

Use the app lawfully and for its intended purpose. Do not try to disrupt the service or the services it connects to, and do not use it to violate anyone’s rights. Chess suggestions from the engine or the human-like opponent are for study; do not use them to cheat in rated or tournament games, which is against the rules of chess platforms and events.

6. No warranty

The app is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. Opening statistics come from third parties and may be incomplete; engine evaluations and the human-like opponent’s moves may be wrong. Nothing in the app is professional advice.

7. Limitation of liability

To the extent permitted by law, the publisher and contributors are not liable for any loss or damage arising from the use of, or inability to use, the app, including lost data. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

8. Changes and availability

The app is maintained on a best-effort basis. Features may change, and the app may be paused or discontinued at any time. Because the source is open, you can always run your own copy. We may update these terms; the date above shows the latest version, and earlier versions are in the public change history. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.
